The University of Western Australia (UWA) recently hosted an Indonesian Day for 2024, an event designed with a clear focus on students engaged in Indonesian studies. Students were provided an informative and immersive experience deeply rooted in Indonesian culture and studies.
The day boasted a program featuring speakers from various fields, such as the Department of Foreign Affairs, the UWA Language Department, the Australian Defence Force, and the Australian-Indonesian Youth Association. Their participation underlined the event’s objective: to offer students diverse insights into the relationships and connections between Australia and Indonesia from a cultural and professional perspective.
In addition to the educational aspects, the event included several hands-on activities that allowed students to experience Indonesian culture first-hand. A cooking demonstration showcased how to prepare popular dishes like nasi goreng and mi goreng, accompanied by fried chicken, which was a treat for the taste buds.
Further enriching the cultural experience, students participated in workshops focused on traditional Indonesian music and dance. These interactive sessions provided a fun break from the more formal talks and deepened the students’ appreciation and understanding of Indonesian arts.
Overall, it was a day well-spent, full of learning, experiencing, and understanding, an opportunity for students to broaden their horizons and see beyond the confines of the classroom.
