Year 11 and 12 Visual Art and Textiles students enjoyed a visit to both the Museum and Art Gallery of WA on 18 July. Gallery guides provided rich and varied information about works of art from historical and contemporary perspectives. The students engaged in meaningful and responsive conversations about artists’ practice, concepts, and techniques. It was wonderful to witness the growth in their visual literacy as they engaged thoughtfully with works of art.
A highlight of the excursion was viewing The West Australian Pulse exhibition which surveys the artistic talents and unique perspectives from the previous year’s Year 12 Visual Arts graduates. From intimate reflections on personal experiences to bold explorations of societal issues, this year’s exhibition managed to captivate, challenge, and inspire our student’s art practices. At its core, the students found the day to be a celebration of the transformative power of art and creativity and have returned to their studios with even more enthusiasm.
