Exploring Healthcare Through Play: An Insightful Incursion for Kindy and Pre-Primary Students
Our students in Kindy and Pre-Primary recently participated in an incursion run by The Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospitals (AWCH).
They engaged in discussions about their own hospital experiences and were shown various medical equipment items. The presenter used props, pictures and a short video to familiarise the students with the people, objects and interactions they may have when needing medical services. Afterwards, the children were given the opportunity to dress up as doctors, nurses, surgeons and ambulance drivers, while others acted out as the patients.
The emphasis on learning through play allowed children to share and develop their individual understanding. Storybooks about hospitalisation, jigsaw puzzles, board games and hospital doll houses were an integral part of the experience. Our students gained invaluable insights into the world of healthcare in a fun and engaging way.
