We offer access to a diverse range of programs, whether through ATAR or a General Pathway, designed to support student interests and strengths. Our school adopts a holistic approach with numerous excursions, incursions, and opportunities for community engagement to enhance every students’ secondary school experience and help develop wholesome and resilient life skills.

Year 7 and 8 Tasters

In the first years of Secondary School, students study a more generalised curriculum, with all courses mandated by the Western Australian government.

Students will rotate between what will become more specialised areas of learning in Years 9 and 10, and include Technologies (Woodwork, Food Technology), The Arts (Drama, Music and Visual Art), and Languages (Indonesian).

Year 9 Elective Subjects 2025

Discover your artistic potential in Year 9 Visual Art, where you’ll explore a wide range of mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and digital media. You’ll develop a solid foundation in visual language, artistic techniques, and the elements and principles of design. Unleash your creativity in the world of jewellery design! In this course, you’ll learn the basics of metalwork and gemstone setting as you craft your own unique pieces, including rings and more. With hands-on guidance, you’ll gain the skills needed to bring your ideas to life, whether you’re a beginner or aiming for a future in the arts. This course offers a perfect opportunity to explore your artistic potential and create stunning jewellery that reflects your personal style.

Get ready to unleash your inner actor! In this electrifying drama course, you’ll create your own characters, bring dynamic short plays to life, and play lots of improvisation games. Explore the thrill of designing lights, costumes, sound, and sets, while mastering the secrets of stagecraft. Collaborate with your classmates on a scripted scene, turning rehearsals into show-stopping performances. And the best part? The year culminates in a spectacular class production where you’ll shine in front of a live audience!


Requirements: Theatre blacks (black pants/shorts and a black t-shirt)

Get hands-on with woodworking in this exciting course, where you’ll design and build your own projects, including a jewellery box and a chopping board. You’ll learn essential woodworking techniques, whether you’re a beginner or looking to improve your skills. This is a great opportunity to bring your ideas to life, develop craftsmanship, and create pieces you’ll be proud to take home.

Explore the great outdoors with action-packed activities like hiking, snorkelling, surfing, and campfire cooking. In this course, you’ll build teamwork and leadership skills while developing an understanding of the natural environment. Along the way, you’ll face exciting challenges and create lifelong memories with new friends.


Cost: $300–$400 (covers equipment, activities, instructors, and a 4-day camp)
Prerequisites: Ability to swim 200m (4 laps of a 50m pool) in under 5 minutes and 20 seconds

Explore the world of Music for film and TV in this Year 9 Music course. You’ll enhance your understanding of aural and theoretical concepts (Grade 2 level) while developing practical composition and music-making skills. This course prepares you for senior school music and offers a strong foundation in theoretical, analytical, and creative aspects of music.


Recommendation: Students learning an instrument are encouraged to take this elective to complement their instrumental tuition.

Dive deep into the science behind human performance with Applied Sport Science. Learn about anatomy, physiology, anthropometry, and fitness testing to understand how the body functions and adapts to exercise. You’ll also explore advanced training techniques, biomechanics, sports nutrition, and use video analysis to refine your skills. This course includes earning a Surf Rescue Certificate, equipping you with essential life-saving skills in aquatic environments.

Students of today, baby-sitters of tomorrow, parents of the future. Parenting is learned, not instinctive. This subject is centred around the baby and child. Students are guided to create baby items suitable for the nursery and to design and make appropriate and nutritious meals for mothers and toddlers. As many students partake in babysitting activities, this aspect is incorporated into the course.

Discover the exciting world of media in this Year 9 course! Explore how films, television, social media, and advertising shape our world, while learning the basics of media production. You’ll get hands-on experience creating your own media projects, from photography and video to digital storytelling. Develop skills in editing, sound, and visual effects as you bring your creative ideas to life. Year 10 Elective Subjects 2025

Year 10 Visual Art provides an opportunity to deepen your artistic skills and knowledge. Building on previous years, this course focuses on enhancing your technical abilities, creative processes, and understanding of art’s role in society. You will explore a wide range of mediums, from traditional painting and sculpture to contemporary digital practices, while analysing and interpreting artworks from diverse cultures and historical contexts.
By choosing Year 10 Visual Art, you’ll refine your visual communication and creative thinking skills, which are valuable for various careers and fields of study. This course encourages experimentation and taking creative risks, preparing you for future opportunities in the arts and beyond.

Year 10 Sport Management immerses you in the dynamic world of sports and equips you with essential skills for a career in the field. You’ll gain hands-on experience through certifications like the Surf Rescue Certificate or Bronze Medallion (requiring a 200m swim in under 5 minutes) and SMA Level 1 Sports Trainer, where you’ll learn first aid and injury management in sports settings.

In Year 10 Woodwork, unleash your creativity by designing and crafting two stunning projects: a personalised resin lamp and a stylish side table. You’ll learn the fundamentals of woodworking, resin casting, and fine finishing techniques to bring your unique designs to life. This course takes you through the entire process—from initial concept to final polish—allowing you to create functional art that reflects your personal style. By the end, you’ll have two handcrafted masterpieces to display proudly.

Year 10 Outdoor Recreation offers an adventure-packed experience where you’ll hike through breathtaking landscapes, snorkel in clear waters, rock climb, and possibly even try mountain biking. This course pushes your physical limits, builds teamwork skills, and fosters a deeper connection with nature.

Cost: Additional costs cover equipment, activities, instructors, and a 4-day camp, ranging between $350 – $450 for 2025.

Prerequisite: You must demonstrate swimming proficiency (200m swim in under 5 minutes, 20 seconds), as many activities are water-based.

Year 10 Indonesian provides you with the opportunity to expand your language skills and cultural understanding. The course includes potential tours to Indonesia, where you can experience the culture first-hand by visiting sites of historical significance, forming international friendships, and exchanging ideas.

Career Opportunities: Speaking a second language opens doors to diverse careers, with employers increasingly valuing multilingual employees in today’s global economy.

Year 10 Music explores various contemporary music styles, helping you develop your skills in aural theory and musical performance. You’ll gain ensemble experience by performing live, as well as writing and performing your own original songs. This course provides the practical, theoretical, analytical, and creative foundation needed to pursue music in senior school. Students are encouraged to learn an instrument through the school’s tuition program or externally, as studying an instrument complements this music elective.

Year 10 Drama is an exciting next step for students aiming to further their skills in preparation for Year 11 ATAR and General Drama. You’ll enhance voice and movement techniques, dive deeper into improvisation, and explore theatre history and key drama practitioners. From script analysis to live performances, this course offers a mix of theory and hands-on experiences. Plus, you’ll showcase your talents in front of friends and family during an evening performance.

Prerequisite: Year 9 Drama is recommended but not essential.

Watching and helping young children grow can be fun. Students will have the opportunity to learn about babies and become informed in the areas of conception, pregnancy, developmental stages, birthing, and the needs of infants, including bathing, feeding, and changing, as well as immunisation and health. Practical activities include the making of nursery items, planning and hosting a baby shower and preparing nutritious meals & snacks for pregnant women and babies.

In the Year 10 Media course, take your creativity and media skills to new heights! Building on what you’ve learned, you’ll explore advanced media techniques and dive deeper into film, TV, social media, and digital content creation. You’ll produce more complex projects, such as short films, documentaries, or advertisements while learning about narrative structure, camera work, editing, and sound design. Analyse how media influences culture and communication and develop critical thinking skills to evaluate media messages.
